The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the firm's Life Sciences and Chemistry team. This is a full time, permanent position based in one of our UK offices: London (preferred), Bristol, Sheffield or Warwick. Hybrid working options, including working from home, are available.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

- Advising clients on securing appropriate IP protection
- Researching prior art and working directly with clients to develop creative and persuasive arguments against patent office objections
- Thoroughly analysing and editing existing patent specifications to overcome objections to patent applications
- Drafting specifications for complex technical inventions
- Researching and advising on the status, scope and validity of third-party intellectual property rights
- Building a network of contacts, with a view to converting contacts to clients
- Developing the relationship with our current clients and bringing in new business

About You

To join us as a Part-Qualified Chemical Patent Attorney, you’ll need:

- A part-qualified (UK or European) Patent Attorney. Recently qualified candidates will also be considered
- A strong academic or industry record in chemistry, ideally in organic, pharmaceutical or green chemistry, and the ability to communicate effectively about technical concepts with the research and development teams of our clients
- To be skilled in analysing and identifying the novel features and commercial potential of an invention with plenty of experience in drafting claims and responses to office actions for prosecution
- Impeccable written English and first-rate communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and accurately
- A track record of interacting effectively with staff and clients at all levels and an enthusiastic team-player with a proactive approach
- A track record of building rapport with clients and developing new business

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

- Developing the relationship with our current clients and bringing in new business
- Advising clients on securing appropriate IP protection
- Drafting specifications for complex technical inventions, particularly in the mechanical engineering or aerospace area
- Researching prior art and working directly with clients to develop creative and persuasive arguments against patent office objections
- Thoroughly analysing and editing existing patent specifications to overcome objections to patent applications and attending hearings at the European Patent Office
- Researching and advising on the status, scope and validity of third-party intellectual property rights
- Building a network of contacts, with a view to converting contacts to clients

About You

To join us as a Patent Attorney, you’ll need:

- A qualified UK and European Patent Attorney with up to three years’ post qualification experience
- A strong academic or industry record in an engineering discipline and the ability to communicate effectively about technical concepts with the research and development teams of our clients
- To be skilled in analysing and identifying the novel features and commercial potential of an invention with plenty of experience in drafting claims and responses to office actions for prosecution
- Impeccable written English and first-rate communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and accurately
- A track record of interacting effectively with staff and clients at all levels and an enthusiastic team-player with a proactive approach

In order to support the strong growth of our French office’s portfolio of clients and strengthen the French team, led by Marie-Claude Pellegrini, Russell Edson & Yannick Biron & we are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic patent attorney. The role will principally be to support the Partners in the French branch, as well as working with the UK & German teams. The role will also be to help the Partners in promoting our service offering in the French innovation sector and more generally participating in developing our French practice and supporting our international client base.

We are looking primarily for a patent Engineer, preferably French-qualified (CPI) and/or part-qualified/fully qualified as a European Patent Attorney, with expertise in electronics, software, and mechanical subject matter, who is willing to work closely with our French, UK and German teams, to provide a high quality and friendly service to our clients in France and across the world.

As the firm's French office is based in Paris, being located in the Parisian region would be preferable. However, based on your constraints and your flexibility, our hybrid working policy allows us to consider candidates based in other locations.

Nous recherchons en priorité un ingénieur brevet et/ou CPI (mention brevets) qualifié et/ou mandataire européen (au moins partiellement qualifié), ayant des compétences en électronique, logiciels, et mécanique, et désireux de travailler en étroite collaboration avec nos équipes françaises, britanniques et allemandes, afin de fournir un service autant qualitatif que convivial à nos clients en France comme dans le monde entier.

Le bureau français du cabinet étant basé en région parisienne, un lieu de résidence en île de France serait préférable. Toutefois, en fonction de vos contraintes et de votre flexibilité, notre politique de travail hybride et flexible permettrait d’envisager d’autres lieux.
