The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Advanced Engineering group. This is a permanent, full-time role based in our Munich office. Hybrid working options, including working from home, are available.

Your tasks in this role include:

- Developing relationships with our current clients and acquiring new business
- Advising clients on how to ensure adequate IP protection
- Drawing up specifications for complex technical inventions, particularly in mechanical and process engineering
- Researching the state of the art and working directly with clients to develop creative and convincing arguments against patent office objections
- Thoroughly analysing and revising existing patent specifications to overcome objections to patent applications and attending oral hearings before the European Patent Office, the German Patent and Trademark Office and the German Patent Court
- Researching and advising on the status, scope and validity of third party intellectual property rights
- Building a network of contacts with the aim of converting contacts into clients
- Supporting our colleagues in Munich in enforcing and defending intellectual property rights at the various offices and courts in Germany, the European Community and the UPC.

Your requirements

To join us as a patent attorney, you need:

- Qualification as a German and/or European patent attorney
- A degree in mechanical engineering, an engineering science or physics
- Strong academic or industry-specific experience in an engineering or scientific discipline and the ability to communicate effectively with our clients' research and development teams about technical concepts
- Knowledge in analysing and identifying the novel features and commercial potential of an invention as well as extensive experience in drafting claims and responses to legal actions
- Fluent German and English with first-class communication skills and the ability to express ideas clearly and precisely
- A track record of dealing effectively with employees and customers at all levels and an enthusiastic team player with a proactive approach
- A track record of building relationships with customers and developing new business

Die Rolle

Es hat sich eine spannende Gelegenheit ergeben, unserer Gruppe „Advanced Engineering“ beizutreten. Es handelt sich um eine unbefristete Vollzeitstelle in unserem Münchner Büro. Es stehen hybride Arbeitsmöglichkeiten, einschließlich der Arbeit von zu Hause aus, zur Verfügung.

Zu Ihren Aufgaben in dieser Rolle gehören:

- Ausbau der Beziehungen zu unseren aktuellen Kunden und Akquise neuer Geschäfte
- Beratung von Kunden zur Gewährleistung eines angemessenen IP-Schutzes
- Erstellung von Spezifikationen für komplexe technische Erfindungen, insbesondere im Maschinenbau und Verfahrenstechnik
- Recherche zum Stand der Technik und direkte Zusammenarbeit mit Kunden, um kreative und überzeugende Argumente gegen Einwände des Patentamts zu entwickeln
- Gründliche Analyse und Überarbeitung bestehender Patentschriften zur Beseitigung von Einwänden gegen Patentanmeldungen sowie Teilnahme an mündlichen Verhandlungen vor dem Europäischen Patentamt, dem Deutschen Patent- und Markenamt und dem Deutschen Patentgericht
- Recherche und Beratung zu Stand, Umfang und Gültigkeit von Schutzrechten Dritter
- Aufbau eines Kontaktnetzwerks mit dem Ziel, Kontakte in Kunden umzuwandeln
- Unterstützung unserer Kollegen in München bei der Durchsetzung und Verteidigung von Schutzrechten an den verschiedenen Ämtern und Gerichten in Deutschland, der Europäischen Gemeinschaft und dem UPC.

Ihre Voraussetzungen

Um bei uns als Patentanwalt einzusteigen, benötigen Sie;

- Qualifikation als deutscher und/oder europäischer Patentanwalt
- ein abgeschlossenes Studium im Bereich Maschinenbau, einer Ingenieurwissenschaft oder der Physik
- Eine starke akademische oder branchenspezifische Erfahrung in einer ingenieurtechnischen oder naturwissenschaftlichen Disziplin und die Fähigkeit, mit den Forschungs- und Entwicklungsteams unserer Kunden effektiv über technische Konzepte zu kommunizieren
- Kenntnisse in der Analyse und Identifizierung der neuartigen Merkmale und des kommerziellen Potenzials einer Erfindung sowie umfangreiche Erfahrung in der Ausarbeitung von Ansprüchen und Antworten auf gerichtliche Klagen
- Fließende Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse mit erstklassigen Kommunikationsfähigkeiten und der Fähigkeit, Ideen klar und präzise auszudrücken

To strengthen the French team of Marie-Claude Pellegrini, Russell Edson & Yannick Biron, we are looking for a patent attorney with skills in software, electronics and mechanics. Candidates may have the CPI qualification (mention brevets) and/or be qualified as a European Patent Attorney. The position is also open to recent CEIPI graduates.

The successful candidate will be required to work closely with our French, UK and German teams, in order to provide a quality service to our clients both in France and worldwide. They will also be expected to assist the partners in promoting our service offering to innovative French companies, and more generally to participate in the development of our client base in France and to support our international clients.
