Withers & Rogers is one of the largest European intellectual property firms, with over 200 staff located across the UK, Germany and France.

To strengthen the French team led by Marie-Claude Pellegrini & Russell Edson, we are looking for a patent attorney with skills in software, electronics and mechanics. Candidates may have the CPI qualification (mention brevets) and/or be qualified as a French and/or European Patent Attorney. The position is also open to recent CEIPI graduates.

The successful candidate will be required to work closely with our French, UK and German teams, in order to provide a quality service to our clients both in France and worldwide. They will also be expected to assist the partners in promoting our service offering to innovative French companies, and more generally to participate in the development of our client base in France and to support our international clients.

We are therefore seeking a motivated and enthusiastic qualified or part-qualified patent attorney to fill the post.

As the firm's French office is based in Paris, being located in the Parisian region would be preferable. Withers & Rogers operates a flexible hybrid working policy, giving flexibility on office attendance while meeting the needs of the firm and its clients.

Afin de renforcer l'équipe de la branche française animé par Marie-Claude Pellegrini, Russell Edson, nous recherchons un(e) ingénieur(e) brevets ayant des compétences en logiciels, électronique et mécanique. Il/elle peut être titulaire de la qualification de CPI (mention brevets) et/ou de mandataire européen. Toutefois, le poste est également ouvert aux jeunes diplômés du CEIPI.

Le(la) candidat(e) sera amené(e) à travailler en étroite collaboration avec nos équipes françaises, britanniques et allemandes, afin de fournir un service à nos clients en France comme dans le monde entier. Il/elle devra également aider les associés dans la promotion de notre approche auprès des acteurs de l’innovation française, et plus généralement de participer au développement de notre activité en France et être en soutien de nos clients internationaux.

Nous recherchons actuellement un(e) ingénieur(e) brevets motivé et enthousiaste.

Le bureau français du cabinet étant basé en région parisienne, un lieu de résidence en île de France serait préférable. Withers & Rogers dispose d’une politique de télétravail qui offre une souplesse en matière de présence au bureau, tout en devant répondre aux besoins du cabinet et de ces clients.

The Role

This role is within our Advanced Engineering Group. This is a full-time, permanent position based in our Bristol office.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Drafting specifications and responding to office actions for complex inventions to a high standard
- Advising clients on securing appropriate IP protection
- Assisting with Oral Proceedings at the European Patent Office
- Corresponding with clients, Patent Offices and overseas Attorneys
- Analysing prior art and working directly with clients to develop creative and persuasive arguments against patent office objections
- Thoroughly analysing and amending existing patent specifications where necessary to address patent office objections to patent applications
- Researching and advising on the status, scope and validity of third-party intellectual property rights
- Developing relationships with our current clients and building a network of contacts, with a view to converting contacts to clients and bringing in new business

About You

To join us, you’ll need:

- Dual qualified UK and European Patent Attorney
- A strong and demonstrable knowledge base in Mechanical Engineering and the ability to communicate effectively about technical concepts with the research and development teams of our clients.
- Skilled in analysing and identifying the novel features and commercial potential of an invention with demonstrable experience in drafting patent specifications and responses to office actions for prosecution.
- Experience managing cases and client relationships, with a track record of building rapport with clients and developing new business.
- Impeccable written English, attention to detail and first-rate communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and accurately.
- A track record of interacting effectively with staff and clients at all levels and a team player with a proactive approach.
- The ability to prioritise workload, manage high volumes of work and meet deadlines.
